At the beginning of the year Head of Business Studies, Miss Simpson, invited our students and staff to take part in the ‘The £10 Challenge’ as part of her extra curricular club, DT Market Club. The challenge set was to enable those willing to bring their entrepreneurial skills to life, to make as much profit as possible from a business idea, starting with just £10.
The challenge created quite the buzz during break and lunch times as our canteen turned into aisles of stalls selling all sorts of products from fidget spinners to raffle tickets.
During the challenge, we encountered an overwhelming success of selling sugary products and it had its implications, therefore Miss Simpson had to introduce a sugar legislation. This challenged those to deal with real life business obstacles and adapt to this new challenge.
After the trials and tribulations of the market, sugar tax and longevity of the challenge, it finally came to a close in the last week before the Easter break after a term of frantic buying and selling.
A number of students took part in the challenge from Year 7 to Lower Sixth, with a variety of business ideas, which concluded with over £250 going to the local Rotary Club, (10% of all profits made).
A huge congratulations to all those involved and a round of applause to those who managed to raise the highest amount of profit:
Our overall winner of the challenge was, Lower Sixth pupil, Harry M selling fidget spinners using his 3D printer.
Josh K and Harry H came a very close second with their sweet business.
Miss Simpson, Head of Business Studies, was delighted with the students’ entrepreneurial spirit and enthusiasm, particularly those who produced goods such as Evelyn J, Jack and Rosie H.
