Catching up with Cadet Warrant Officer Ben Kirby on his new role as the Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadet for Merseyside

2 May 2025

We are extremely proud of our Upper Sixth student, Ben Kirby, on his recent appointment as the Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadet for Merseyside.

In this prestigious role, Cadet Warrant Officer Kirby will be primarily undertaking the duty as an Aide-de-Camp. He will accompany the Lord-Lieutenant, Mark Blundell, the King’s representative in Merseyside, to various ceremonies, including Royal Visits, Military and Civil events and Cathedral Services.

This appointment is a testament to Ben’s outstanding dedication and commitment during his time in the CCF at St. Mary’s.

Ben was also awarded as the Best CCF (RAF) Cadet in Merseyside in this year’s Merseyside Best Cadet Awards.

Ben is a true leader and an inspiration to our younger pupils, and he is the first member of the St. Mary’s CCF to be appointed as Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadet and also the first St. Mary’s pupil to be awarded Best CCF (RAF) Cadet in Merseyside.

We caught up with Ben to find out more about the process leading up to his appointment in his new role and receiving the Best CCF (RAF) Cadet in Merseyside award.
