Lockdown PE for All
Welcome back for 2021. We are very excited for the new term and have some exciting plans for Lockdown PE. The most important thing you can do is ‘buy in.’ There’s something for everyone in our sessions and let’s all aim at being fitter at the start of the half-term than the end. There’s couch to 5K (maybe do it with your children-see link to the app at the bottom of the page), Yoga, Tabata, rugby strength & conditioning, live lessons, FIFA competitions, the lot. Please stay in touch as much as you can through the usual e-mail addresses, Microsoft Teams for the pupils and @Stmaryssport on twitter. Key worker pupils will be able to access lessons from school.
PE Years 7-9
PE will take place as usual in the form of a live lesson. Year 7-9 Class groups have been made on Microsoft Teams and the lessons will commence at the normal time, finishing 15 minutes or so earlier so pupils can recover for their next lessons. We look forward to seeing you. Please come to lessons with PE kit or similar, pen & paper, a drink of water and any medical equipment you should need such as inhalers. Please make sure that there is an adult in the house too should you need any assistance. Year 9 PE tasks are uploaded to your Microsoft Teams group and Mr Williams will take you through them during the lesson. For Year 7 & 8, just turn up and Mrs Miles and Mr Armstrong will go through the exercises with you.
Also, make sure you have a space to work in, that the teacher can see you (should you wish) and most importantly that you can see the teacher. It isn’t essential that you have your camera on but it’s far easier, more interactive and more fun if we can see you so that we can encourage you and help you with technique.
Games lessons for all
Each pupil will be assigned to a Microsoft Teams Group. We will register you for Games at the start and end of the lesson. Mr Manley has set up the sessions below and you can do whatever you want from the list; there’s Tabata, Yoga and rugby strength & conditioning. Games staff are in school in the afternoons looking after Key Worker Pupils. However once we get into the swing of that we may also have Live Games lessons (think Joe Wicks but dad bods!!).
In the 1h 45 minute lesson we expect you to complete one of the following options:
- One Tabata session and one rugby strength and conditioning session.
- One Yoga/Pilates session and one Tabata.

GCSE and A-Level academic lessons will carry on as usual so come to lessons prepared to graft with your usual equipment. For Years 10 & 12 it will be business as usual. For Years 11 & 13 it will be business as usual in terms of completing courses and then compiling as much evidence as possible to secure the grade you deserve. We can’t stress enough how important it is to focus in these next few months; both GCSE and A Level groups last year continued to graft in lockdown which enabled us to support them in achieving very good grades.
We are exploring the possibility of having a FIFA league for the Lockdown period. If you are interested, please e-mail Mr Manley (firstname.lastname@example.org) or DM him through Microsoft Teams to register an interest by Monday 11th January. If there’s enough interest the intention is to have an Xbox League, a PlayStation League and a Nintendo Switch League. Please inform Mr. Manley whether you are on Xbox, PlayStation or Nintendo Switch.
Whilst many may thrive in lockdown, we know this is really hard for some of you. PE staff are here for you whether it’s for advice on fitness, diet or you just need a chat.

See you soon lads, Boys PE
