Soukaina in Lower Sixth, was one of eight talented winners of the Ant Clausen Fire it up Fund in Liverpool.

The competition was set up in memory of Liverpool based photographer Ant Clausen, with a fund of £20,000 to offer investment, mentoring and opportunity for 16-25 year olds who want to kick start a career in photography or filmmaking but might not have the cash, contacts or experience to do it on their own.

Sarah Fisher, Director of Open Eye Gallery and the main partner in the fund said, ‘We were inundated with applicants for the fund of a very high standard, but the work of these 8 young people stood out as having incredible potential.’

When congratulating Soukaina, we asked how she felt about winning the competition:

‘For me, the fund opened so many doors in the art world that I could never have imagined a few months ago. Not only have they awarded me a grant to invest in kit, software, and courses, but they have offered me one-on-one mentoring and the opportunity to meet and network with other artists in Liverpool, which is something that money cannot buy. I am incredibly appreciative of all the work and effort that Ant Clausen’s friends and family have put into creating this fund, and I couldn’t be any more grateful!’

Soukaina is currently studying Art at A Level at St. Mary’s College Sixth Form alongside French, Geography and Physical Education. We are thrilled Soukaina’s talents are being recognised and showcased around Liverpool and can’t wait to see her skills blossom.

Her photographs are set to be featured in Liverpool’s high street coffee shop, Bold Street Coffee!

Soukaina captured photographs with an iPhone X and the Sony cybershot DSC-W220.
