Combined Cadet Force

The CCF is a voluntary youth organisation sponsored by HM Forces. The unit at St. Mary’s has two sections (Army and RAF) and parades after school on a Monday.

Joining the Combined Cadet Force at St. Mary’s

Pupils may join the CCF on entering Year 9. Whilst each section has its own programme of service training, most of the activities throughout the year are done as a joint enterprise with all cadets welcome to take part. The main emphasis is on developing qualities of leadership, team building and discipline.

The following opportunities are available within the CCF:

  • Adventure Training (e.g. climbing & abseiling in the Lake District)
  • Air Experience Flying (at RAF Woodvale)
  • Gliding Courses and Flying Scholarships
  • Leadership Courses (including UKLF national courses)
  • Shooting Courses (e.g. Altcar Ranges)
  • Camps (combining training and outdoor pursuits)
  • Parachuting
