The pupils enjoyed a wonderful day celebrating books to mark World Book Day!
There were some amazing costumes representing a whole host of book characters. The pupils spent the day taking part in a carousel of activities, these were in groups that were made up of children from each year. It was wonderful to see our older pupils helping the younger ones during the day.
We had the following activities take place:
Quiz
Working together in groups, the children enjoyed a variety of quizzes all around books. They answered a Picture Book round, Classic Books round and a fairytale round.
Signed Story
Groups focussed on ‘The Gruffalo’ and used British Sign language to share the story.
Reading for Pleasure
The children read in pairs and joined together to read in larger groups. Staff also read to the children, using a variety of books.
Drawing Book Characters
On the roll of a dice, the children drew famous book characters in stages. The end results were fantastic!
Bookmarks
Each child enjoyed the time to get creative and design a bookmark to take home. Lots of designs were based on the character that they were dressed up as and the children enjoyed showing each other their designs.
To complete the day, all the pupils took home with them a free book in celebration! We had a collection of books such as Ruby’s Worry by Tom Percival and The Last Bear by Hannah Gold. The children enjoyed reading these, to finalise their fun-filled day.

Happy World Book Day!
