Sports

Physical Education in primary schools is of vital importance and something that we take pride in providing a wide range of sporting opportunities to our pupils. Every child in the school has a minimum of two hours of physical education every week. However, there is the opportunity for them to experience around six hours per week should they attend sports clubs, and play for school teams.

Our teachers follow a rigorous programme of study for PE and children make excellent progress from Reception through to Year 6. Children have the opportunity to experience Athletics, Cricket, Cross Country, Football, Hockey, Rugby, Rounders, Netball, Swimming, Table Tennis and Tennis during their time at St. Mary’s College Preparatory School.

It is vitally important that children understand the need for physical activity in their daily lives and this is something that runs alongside our Healthy Living Initiative. We are aware that not all children have a natural love of sport and we look to foster this in them by showing the benefits of hard work, fun and development whilst ensuring that those children who are blessed with natural ability have the chance to showcase what they are capable of on a regular basis.
