At St. Mary’s we value reading very highly and we want all children to enter the world of literature both in school and at home.
Over the Christmas holidays, we ran a fun and festive competition throughout December to encourage children to capture themselves reading a book in the most creative and interesting place they could find. The competition was set out to prove you really can read anywhere and everywhere!
We had three categories; Nursery, Primary and Secondary and opened this up to all children not just those at St. Mary’s, for a chance to win a £25 Pritchard’s Bookshop voucher, our beloved local bookshop in Crosby.
We were thrilled by the incredible range of entries we received — from underwater reading to upside-down reading, and from locations as far and wide as New York and Mount Fuji!
Our judging panel, made up of Mrs Haigh (Head of Early Years), Mr Webster (Head of St. Mary’s Prep), and Mr Kennedy (Head of St. Mary’s College), had the very difficult task of selecting a winner for each category. After much deliberation, we were delighted to congratulate the following winners for each category:
Nursery: Alex from Early Years & Bright Sparks Nursery
Primary: George in Year 3 at St. Mary’s Preparatory School
Secondary: Evelyn in Year 8 at St. Mary’s College
We were thrilled to present our winners with their Pritchard Bookshop vouchers and truly grateful for all the imaginative and inspiring entries we received.
A huge thank you to everyone who took part — you really did prove that you can Read Anywhere and Everywhere!
