At St. Mary’s College Preparatory School we believe that music is a wonderful vehicle for developing pupils beyond the purely academic, and shaping their characters and personalities in new and often surprising ways. We are keen to give our pupils the opportunity to develop their natural talent in music and to pursue excellence at every level of practical music-making and singing.
At St. Mary’s College Preparatory School there is a sophisticated music programme for all pupils and in Year 4 the children are given the opportunity to try out various instruments before selecting one to learn. They receive individual tuition from specialist peripatetic teachers and Senior School music teachers and are offered an extensive programme of examinations through the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. The school offers the children the opportunity to perform in a number of ensembles including Band and Orchestra.
Music is an essential part of life at St. Mary’s and we have a strong reputation for musical excellence. Pupils are given opportunities to perform in a number of concerts including St. Mary’s Festival of Music at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall and outdoor ‘Proms in the Park’ music and fireworks concert. End of term concerts held in school allow the pupils to showcase their instrumental and choral skills and the school’s band, orchestra and recorder ensembles perform at the Junior Prize Giving at the Atkinson Theatre.
